VET and the “Competency-Tetris”

The purpose of the article is to empirically analyse how idea inclusion portrayed within boundaries “Competency-Tetris”: a metaphor that should not be confused with Tetris® game but used theoretically capture individualised, competency-based, and managerially governed Vocational Education Training (VET). We argue meaning social through VET unclear vested by human capital doctrines neoliberal assumptions from which it derived. Whom does in involve, what where take place? Employing design-based research approach, we abductive applications data produced participatory ethnographic observations (N=32) interviews (N=12). results identified four abstracted themes: (1) Fitting workforce auction; (2) Multi-professional support trajectories; (3) Inclusion qualification measures; (4) Social cultural learning communities. first three themes suggest Competency-Tetris divider students based on “go-forward” engine engineering at its fore. That is, desired between work are strengthened, question enabling equal for all faces U-turn. Thus, economic value accumulated competency-based measures accentuated. latter theme identifies different, albeit obscured, aspiration: encounters requiring dignity, mutual respect, generosity, developmental sustainable ecology increasingly approached as part of, within, VET.
